A Spiritual Journey of
Ancient China Dynasty’s
Ancient Relics & Historic Sights at
Mount Qingcheng

This is our next journey in the Sichuan Province and a chance to see some of the ancient culture of this region.  Mount Qingcheng, located in the southwest part of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System in the Sichuan Province.  This Mountain is one of the most famous Taoist mountains in all of China. This area is covered with beautiful, dense and a wide variety of trees including evergreens.  The mountain has 36 different peaks and is home to the Dujiangyan Giant Panda Center.

Over two thousand years ago in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Taoist master Zhang Dao Ling came to Qingcheng Mountain. This remote and secluded mountain attracted Zhang Ling to settle down and begin preaching Taoism.

As we explored just a small part of this incredible Park, we were amazed by the alluring natural beauty and an abundance of cultural relics and historic sites scattered in the park.

There are so many ancient Palaces, Pavilions and Temples such as the famous Jianfu Palace (constructed in the Tang Dynasty from 618-907AD), Fujian Palace (built in 730 AD) and the Shangqing Palace.  Sections of this park were built in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), Jin Dynasty (265-440), Sui Dynasty (581-618), and even the more recent Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

We only had less than one day to spend at this huge park and we could easily have spent at least 1 or 2 days to see everything.

When we arrived at the foot of Mount Qingcheng and looked up to the highest peak, known as Pengzu Peak or Laoxiao Peak, we saw the famous Laojun Pavilion.  This high peak has an elevation of over 1,260 meters (4,134 feet).

We decided to walk to Yuecheng Lake and take a boat ride across the lake.  The boat is a beautiful wood boat shaped like an ancient pavilion.

Across the lake we came to the Buyun Cable Car.  At the top of the cable car, we arrived at the Lingyun Resort near the Ciyun pavilion.  In this park there are three different cable car systems taking you to different peaks and sights to behold.

We strolled around this scenic park admiring how the people of the Tang Dynasty built these many fabulous structures through the peaks and valleys of Mount Qingcheng.

After hours of walking and sightseeing, we headed down the mountain towards the entrance.

We all agreed that if we have the chance, we have to come back and see more of this serene, meditative and majestic mountain area.  We would especially want to see some of the many caves such as the Tianshi Celestial Cave, Taoist Master Cave and the Five Heavenly cave, not to mention the many other pavilions palaces and temples.  We were told that in the Taioist Master Cave, there are statues of Zhang Dao Ling, Master Xu Jing, Emperor Xuan Yuan, Fuxi and Shen Nong standing in the cave.

After all, this park is thousands of acres to explore with hundreds of temples, palaces, pavilions, caves, bridges, and so much more.

This is a very special place if you want to take a vacation, or just visit for a spiritual experience. So, we highly recommend you visit Mount Qingcheng and all it has to offer.

Qingcheng Mountain is situated
in the southwest of Dujiangyan city,
68 kilometers northwest of Chengdu.
